  1. Notice of a Special Meeting. A sign that Commissioner Best may actually operate as the "Council" through proper processes including proper meetings. A 3pm start time - makes it hard for many people to attend but 3 decisions - say 3 minutes.

But there should be at LEAST 15 minutes of public question time and there are plenty of questions from those able to attend. Will Commissioner Best extend the time for public questions seeing that the rest of the meeting should be very short?

Where did the increase number of councillors come from? The DLG and Minister have been trying to cut the number of councillors. Great to see the consistency.

Now, perhaps Commissioner Best can explain the "decisions" concerning the Acting CEO contract extension and the closure of the tourist centre office. Where and when were the meetings, where are the minutes?

    1. Be aware - Public Questions at a Special Council meeting can ONLY relate to the topics of the meeting so don't bother to attend and be disappointed if you intend to ask other questions not relevant to the three agenda items. If you have other questions as mentioned above, you are better to wait for the Electors Meeting on 25 February 2015.

  2. It's all very well increasing the number of Councillors, but until there is some mechanism in place to insure that Councilors are fully aware of their responsibilities, nothing will change regardless how many positions there are, in reality, seven could be worse scenario.
I was present at the meet the candidate meeting when young Duperouzel proudly stood up, puffed out his chest and announced he was a fifth generation Yorkie, bang done deal, shoe in. That's all it takes folks , you could have an IQ the same as your shoe size, unless you have York written through you like a stick of rock, you're going to be up against it. Of course, it helps hugely if you were taught by a deputy principal who you idolised.
Ex Councillor, Roy Scott, another good example. After moving to York, he systematically joined any club or association that would have him, some would say he was a 'social climber', it was membership of one of these committees that a beautiful friendship was shaped, after Roy befriended ex Councillor Boyle.
This was the same ex Councillor who then systematically un-joined all the clubs and associations he had joined because he didn't get his own way. There was a cartoon published in a local paper which depicted this delightfully, spat dummies on a table. Roy left town soon after he discovered he had been shafted by his superficial friends and that he would never get to see his dream of a train shed built on the spot where the dam expensive, $160,000.00 Forest Oval dam now occupies.
I could go on and name a few more but I'm sure you've got the gist.

  3. Some credit is due to the CEO or Best if one or both decided to publish the meeting notice in the official unofficial blog. A small sign of recognition ......of course if they did not arrange its publication ....shame.

  4. Slightly off topic but media reports indicated that Barnett has "put up the white flag" on local government reform. What that actually means remains to be seen but Simpson was saying it was full stream ahead. I suspect he was not aware of Barnett's comments or he would have been saying yes sir, three bags full sir, how high sir.

But it shows that the democratic process can work, and in this case, apart from the poll results meaning that the mergers could not go ahead anyhow, the strength of the rejection by the voters has spooked the government.

Democracy in York has been trashed by the DLG and the Minister by an unfair, inaccurate and tainted process. Tainted to the degree that it reeks and the blood trails from the carcass are very easy to see.

It would be timely for the Minister to sit back and think about what has happened and be proactive in fixing the problem. That is not going to happen and pigs do not fly. The Minister will pay a heavy price for trashing democracy in York.

  5. Very off topic, does Nick Russo, own the rec center, run the rec center or simply work at the rec center?
    Hard to pick it!

  6. Nick is Catering Manager. He does not own the Rec Centre but he owns the Commissioner. Very chummy.
A better question is when was the deal done to have Nick run the catering. Timing is everything. You sell a local cafe after 2 decades to retire and then manage catering at the Shire owned and run convention centre. Don't forget Nick hosted main street mafia meetings for years and had the catering contract at the race course for years.

No disrespect to Nick. He is a testament to those who ask no questions. Can you imagine the things he's heard from the mouths of Boyle, Hooper etc over the years. If you can live with yourself and make a buck along the way then good luck to you.
