Firstly, please accept our apologies for not responding to your he-mail sooner.
You raised the issue that you were being targeted by ‘Rednecks’ because you are ‘Gay’ and you wish to be a Shire of York Councillor.
Our information is that you have already been a Councillor and that you were personally involved in targeting a female Councillor with misogynist, derogatory remarks.
We also believe this behaviour is on public record!
We have been made aware that you were successful in being erected despite being ‘Gay’ and being allegedly targeted by suggested homophobic ‘Rednecks’ on a local social media site.
You complain that this site published, possibly compromising, easily accessible images of yourself and your partner that you broadcast to everyone on social media.
Whether you are homosexual, transsexual or heterosexual we suggest you do not publish photographic images of yourself that may be offensive to others on a social media site. This obviously assumes you are ‘Gay’ not stupid.
The term ‘Gay’ used in the modern context is not derogatory, however the term ‘Redneck’ is.
In Australia, it means a Bogan, a poorly educated and vulgar person. In the United States it means poor white male trash.
Accusing anyone of being uneducated and vulgar is derogatory. Accusing someone of being poor white male trash is both sexist and racist.
Which of these two descriptions do you prefer?

David, I think the bad thing about Trevor's message to Gay News is the dishonest implication that this blog started up expressly to have a go at him for being gay because he was standing for council.
ReplyDeleteAs I recall, the blog started up in mid-2014, long before nominations for council were called for.
York residents are not homophobic and they are not rednecks!
ReplyDeleteThere's a number of Gay couples who have chosen to make York their home. They are accepted and treated with the same respect as heterosexual couples choosing to live here.
The reason Trevor is unpopular has nothing to do with his sexual preference, it has a more to do with his behaviour when he was on Council with Boyle and Hooper.
Trevor suffers from selective memory. He seems to have forgotten he was a willing participant in the bullying tactics used against residents when he was on council previously, like suggesting on face book with Cr. Pat Hooper that certain people should be 'run out of Town'.
Trevor needs to grow up and stop whinging.
I am sure that Trevor published something on his Facebook page which contained some extremely derogatory remarks about Jane Ferro. Comments accusing Jane of being mad, others questioned her involvement in AVRA, none were justified. Of course, Trevor will argue that he made the comments before nominating for Council and more than likely believes his action were defensible, wrong, his actions show the utter disdain he has for certain sections of the community. Then there were the awful comments published on social media by Trevor about Darlene Barratt, comments which at the time were so threatening and monstrous they warranted police investigation. This contemptuous behavior would have been instilled in him through his most formative early years at school, by the malicious teachings of the master misogynistic authoritarian Headmaster himself.

ReplyDeleteI remember reading the derogatory remarks Trevor made about Jane prior to the last Council election - what a nasty piece of works he is.
Trevor, being nice to those you hurt in the hope they will forget what you did will not work.
