It
should soon be goodbye to the old Goodyear, Dunlop, Pirelli and Bridgestone
tyres piled up near petrol in York’s main street.
The Shire of York President, David Wallace and CEO Paul Martin have both
responded with encouraging alacrity to the potential powder keg.
Shire Officers have already inspected the property finding a number of issues
that need to be addressed in accordance with Council Policy CP1.5 Compliance
and Enforcement.
This week these Officers will be meeting with the operators of the property to
discuss compliance issues regarding the approvals (and their conditions)
applying to the site.
Should there be no positive response from the operators then the matter will be
referred to the Department of Environmental Regulation for adjudication and any
necessary enforcement.
An assurance has been made that no Shire staff will be used to physically
remove any offending materials from the site.
A legitimate question is, as this highly concerning matter was raised two years
ago, why has nothing appropriate been done before now?
The answer is three Acting CEO’s, a waste-of-space Commissioner, an enforced
hiatus for Shire Councillors, the Fitz-Gerald Report, the Minority Report, the
YRCC, the Old Convent school and a plethora of other distractions.
It is highly unlikely that this matter has ever been raised with Council until
now.
There should be no negative retrospection. Day one of redemption started
yesterday.
David Taylor.
Great result, David. Well done.
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations to SP Wallace and CEO Martin for acting, as you say, with encouraging alacrity.
It's especially pleasing that Shire staff won't be called upon to endanger their health and safety by shifting stuff from the site.
Slow down James, lets not blow too much smoke up their arses, best wait and see what happens.
DeleteI hope you mean at a distance through a tube.
DeleteAnonymous14 September 2016 at 18:02 - Come on, lets be a little kind.
ReplyDeleteMore has been done in York in the last few months than in the last 14 years!
Thats right anon sept 15 its time to be kind the town has been savaged over the years .If this is keeped up we will have to say sorry to hooper and company . Its time now to let the town heal
ReplyDeleteand show respect to people who give their time freely to fesa in protecting the town in case of fire and accidents. As the Smith family do
If you want to have anything to say about my comment please have the guts to say it me face to face
There is is one thing to have historical buildings and concerned residents tiding up the town but what of the drive in and out of York. Weeds growing along the the road verges for 19 ks from Cut Hill to Allawuna. Not a lot to be proud of York.
DeleteSpring is here summer is approaching, those weeds will soon die off and 19ks of that road verge from York to Allawuna will be a serious fire hazard.
